Display Screen Equipment Training: A Step-By-Step Guide

Do you need to train your employees on how to use Display Screen Equipment (DSE)? We will walk you through a step-by-step guide on how to carry out DSE training.

Conducting a Risk Assessment

The first step in any training is to assess the risks. This will help you identify what areas need to be covered in the training. When conducting a risk assessment for DSE, there are a few things you need to take into account:

• The workstation layout
• The type of equipment being used
• How the equipment is being used
• The user’s working environment

Once you have all of this information, you can start to identify any potential risks. For example, if the workstation is not set up properly, it could lead to posture problems or musculoskeletal disorders. If the user is not trained on how to use the equipment properly, they could also experience these problems.

Designing The Training
Now that you have identified the risks, it’s time to start designing the training. The first thing you need to do is decide what format the training will take. Will it be an e-learning course? A PowerPoint presentation? Video? Once you’ve decided on the format, you need to start creating the content. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

• The content should be easy to understand
• It should be relevant to the users
• It should cover all of the risks that were identified in the assessment stage

Once you have created the content, it’s time to move on to delivery. This is where you will decide how the training will be delivered to the users. Will it be in a group setting? One-to-one? Or something else? You also need to decide who will be delivering the training. Will it be delivered by a subject matter expert? Or someone else within the organisation?

Delivery and Evaluation
Now it’s time to deliver the training! This is where you put all of your hard work into practice and deliver the content to your employees. Once the training has been delivered, it’s important to evaluate its effectiveness. There are a few ways you can do this:

• Get feedback from employees – ask them what they thought of the training and whether or not they found it helpful
• Conduct follow-up assessments – this will help you see if there have been any improvements in health and safety since completing the training
• Monitor sickness absence rates – if there has been a decrease in sickness absence rates, this could be an indication that the training was effective

Often the DSE training DVD have additional information and in some cases the DSE topic can be part of a larger DVD on health and safety such as staff induction. However it’s used you can guarantee that our DSE training DVDs are concise, clear and affective and show employees vital information that is key to their welfare.
